2012 RUNWAY RED sparks fashion invasion on ZOO Atlanta

Show me the way Foundation in conjunction with Dream Kids returns with annual celebrity kids fashion show

ATLANTA- Show Me The Way Foundation is excited to announce the 2012 Runway Red celebrity kids fashion show benefitting the foundation's efforts on HIV/AIDS research on Saturday, August 4, 2012. The fourth annual charity fashion extravaganza sponsored by African Pride Dream Kids Hair Care returns with bigger celebrities, haute fashion, adorable tots and even more surprises. Zoo Atlanta will serve as the backdrop for the annual affair; this year appropriately entitled "Safari Wonderland." Little stars with their celebrity parents will grace the runway with hopes of raising even more money than last year's show of over 600 supportive attendees. The mini-celebs and children from the Atlanta community will rock high-end fashion designers from all around the world in an effort to raise money for HIV/AIDS research.



African Pride Dream Kids Hair Care is proud to return for the second year as title sponsor for the 2012 Runway Red celebrity kids Fashion Show. Show Me The Way Foundation aims to raise awareness and necessary funding for children infected or affected by HIV/AIDS. The event is a family affair, which further instills a sense of community while educating young people and their parents on the comprehensive effect of HIV/AIDS. Exclusive fall and winter collections will be viewed while guests enjoy celebrity sightings and some very special Atlanta children are exposed to the glamorous world of runway modeling. Super model Cynthia Bailey (RHOA) will work with the diminutive models along with the help of instructors from her Atlanta-based modeling school, The Bailey Agency. "I am super excited about this year's show! Alliance Theatre Summer Camp students present the world premiere musical, What’s Eating Katie?


Alliance Theatre Summer Camp students present the world premiere musical, What’s Eating Katie? - the story of a 13 year old girl struggling with an eating disorder

ATLANTA, May 30, 2012 — High school students in the Alliance Theatre Summer Drama Camp will be tackling the serious issues of eating disorders when they perform the world premiere musical What’s Eating Katie? on June 15-16.  Composed and directed by Alliance artist Bryan Mercer with book by Dina Zeckhausen, What’s Eating Katie? tells the story of a 13 year old girl dealing with an eating disorder and the family and friends who love her.  This powerful theatrical experience will be developed and performed by teens and is intended for teens.

Many students auditioned for the camp, but only fifteen students were chosen for the two week performance training experience.  Those chosen participated in a weekend intensive in May, and will begin camp on Monday, June 4.  During the intensive, Jo-Jo Steine was chosen to play the role of Katie.  She said of the opportunity, “The true joy of acting comes from turning a hard topic, something unpleasant, into something beautiful with the power to make people stop and think. So yes, this summer I’m playing a teenager who starves herself, hates herself, makes herself sick. And I couldn’t ask for a better way to spend a summer than this important challenge.”

“I’m deeply proud that our acting students will be honing their performance skills in a camp that serves a much greater good than simply talent development,” said Alliance Theatre Director of Educational Programming, Christopher Moses.  “While this program will certainly make all the students better actors, better singers, and better performers, it ultimately teaches them about the power of theatre to effect change by shedding light on a topic that demands attention.”

This one of a kind summer camp is produced in partnership with EDIN, the Eating Disorders Information Network, and with Young Audiences, Woodruff Arts Center.  A portion of all ticket sales goes to support EDIN.    For more information on EDIN, visit www.myedin.org

Super Dad: Stepping Up to the Plate and Not Striking Out. (Reblog)



I’m so impressed with the way my husband, Roland, has embraced fatherhood. He’s a quiet spirit, intelligent, accountable, funny, warm, and seldom breaks a sweat when obstacles come his way. My mom calls him an “old soul.” My dad says, “You’re a lucky kid kiddo to have such a great husband.” What makes my husband an exceptional father and extraordinaire human being is that he has the patience, love, and desire to be a positive and influential figure in our sons’ lives.

Roland and I met in undergrad at Clark Atlanta University, located in Atlanta, GA. He swears he noticed me first, but he caught my eye on the promenade; a place where sorority and fraternity members stroll and future love birds meet. Having the same English class our first year sealed the deal, and six years later we jumped the broom in holy matrimony. I tell him that his life would be boring without me. Secretly, I think he agrees.

If my husband wasn’t so introverted, I’d cast him in a reality show on public access television and call it, “Super Dad.” He’s the modern day Cliff Huxtable, but with a little swagger. More like my dad or President Obama, who made Father’s Day a “national conversation on responsible fatherhood and healthy families,” according to the White House. President Obama bringing the conversation of fatherhood to the forefront is important and vital to the development of children.

Roland’s father and my dad have a strong presence in our lives and provide us daily with lifelong lessons. My husband has continued this with our children. It’s about stepping up to the plate and not striking out. It’s our job to raise strong young men who understand the importance of taking care of their responsibilities, and provide them with positive role models to look up to for guidance, support, and unconditional love. When the time comes, they will be super dads for their children.

    The series of vignettes is one step in CARA B Naturally’s larger plan to raise awareness, not only about those special moments between parent and child that are often born out of the everyday routine, but also to encourage the use of all-natural products - especially on newborns, babies and children, who are  more susceptible to the harmful side effects of products containing harsh chemicals.

    About The Triplets:
    Jacoby, Jarius, and Jahlil are the two-year-old triplets that steal the screen.  Jacoby, the oldest, referred to as “Mr. Personality” by his parents, is the one who likes to shake his hair when it's wet. He's also the biggest of the boys. Jarius is sitting in the middle and is also the middle baby. Known for being the “bossy one”, Jarius is often telling his brothers just what to do.  Jahlil is the smallest, youngest and unfortunately for his parents, the most fearless and of course a “climber”; he had his hair washed the most in Bath Time

    It’s apparent that the triplets love taking a bath. Mom, April says “At bath time, the triplets remind me of ducks the way they march up the stairs and run down the hall screaming "Bath! Bath!" My favorite part is watching them play together in the water. Sometimes they lay out as if they're on the beach and splash with their feet. Sometimes they pretend to bathe each other and that's just fun to watch. They have always loved taking a bath. I believe it's because I've never rushed them in or out. I allow them to play and enjoy the water.”
