About the Conference

The University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) is partnering with Heart & Soul Magazine on a health conference for women called “The Healthy, Wealthy, Wise and Beautiful Conference and Expo.”
On Saturday, June 18, join hundreds of women from across the nation for a lively day of health information and fun designed to make you feel Healthy, Wealthy, Wise and Beautiful! There will be more than 18 health-related seminars and workshops; 30 health, wealth and beauty exhibitors; live entertainment; celebrity appearances and much more!
Opening Presentation (9 - 10 a.m.):
The conference will open with Dr. Michelle Gourdine, author of the newly released book “Reclaiming Our Health, A Guide to African American Wellness.” Dr. Gourdine also will be available to sign copies of her book at various times throughout the day.
Health Tracks (10 a.m. - 1:55 p.m.):
Following Dr. Gourdine’s presentation, health expo guests will break into three different “tracks” targeting their particular health interests. For more information about these sessions, including schedule, please select a session:
General Session (2 p.m.):
Participants from all the health track sessions (Women of All Ages, Teens and Nurses) will come together to share what they’ve learned and discuss strategies for creating better communication between patients and medical practitioners, including strategies to help patients talk to their doctors.

Wellness Village (all day):
Throughout the day, expo guests can also walk through the Wellness Village where you can get health screenings, see fitness demonstrations, and consult with beauty and finance experts.
During the conference, guests can meet with writer/contributors and celebrities from Heart & Soul Magazine, including Boris Kodjoe.

Heart & Soul Awards Weekend

The Healthy, Wealthy, Wise and Beautiful Expo is part of a weekend of activities surrounding the Heart & Soul Awards. The weekend’s events will commence with The Women of Substance Gala on Friday, June 17, at the Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel. The event will recognize nationally renowned women who have been profiled in Heart & Soul Magazine for their contributions to advancing the healthy, wealthy and wise lifestyle, which the magazine promotes.
The weekend will culminate with the Heart & Soul Awards Saturday evening taking place at the Renaissance Hotel. This will be a red-carpet event. Presenters will include past Heart & Soul Magazine celebrity cover models, other Hollywood notables and local dignitaries. Recipients of the awards include a select group of women who will be recognized for outstanding achievements and contributions they have made to improving health outcomes for the African American community, specifically women. Included in the honorees will be First Lady Michelle Obama for her “Let’s Move” initiative. A closing reception will also be held at the Renaissance Hotel following the awards.
