Reblog: It's Time to Establish Lactation Rooms at Atlanta's Airport

It's time to establish designated and convenient lactation rooms at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (HJAIA). Currently, HJAIA does not have designated lactation rooms for employers or customers.
Under the recent health care reform act, employers are now required to provide a space (not a bathroom) for breastfeeding moms. Perhaps Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport can establish lactation rooms for employees and traveling moms. http://t.co/fKN0p7H
Airport officials suggest that nursing mothers use co-ed family restrooms to pump and breastfeed that are located at the following concourses and gates: T-4, T-8, A-8, A-27, B-9, B-22, B-29, C-11, C-19, C-43, D-4 and D-32. Officials also stated via Twitter that , "We make private areas available for nursing mothers with advance notice.  Please contact customer service at  (800) 897-1910 or (404) 530-7300 to make arrangements." While this is an option for nursing mothers, it is unacceptable. Breastfeeding mothers deserve a convenient, designated, safe, secure, and comfortable place to pump and breastfeed.

Let's work together to establish designated and convenient lactation rooms at HJAIA!

What moms are saying about their experience breastfeeding at HJAIA:
"I can remember walking around engorged trying to locate a place to pump when I was out and about. I nursed Madison for 14 months and wouldn't trade a second of it for anything in the world!" - Tanya C. from Atlanta, GA
"I asked the Delta customer service to help me locate a lactation room, and that was the best they could come up ...with. I had to sit on the cold, hard, granite counter so I could be near the outlet. Families, needing to use the room, knocked on the door the whole 20 minutes I was in there. When I exited alone, I got angry stares. That was one of the only moments I wished my pump bag wasn't so discrete." - Erina T. from Savannah, GA
" 9 years ago when I was nursing Lawrence, I actually had to nurse him in the airport bathroom!! Who else eats in the bathroom?" - Shae P. from Atlanta, GA
It's time to establish designated and convenient lactation rooms at Atlanta's airport. Stand up Mayor Reed and help us accomplish this goal!
